LightingEurope online training on LCA, EPD, EU PEF methodology & PEPEcoPassport rules for lighting products

LightingEurope is organising a half-day training exclusively for the staff of LightingEurope members to introduce the concepts of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and to go through the main features of existing methodologies and how they would apply to luminaires.

The aim of this training session is to:

  • Build capacity among LightingEurope members
  • Review existing product-specific rules for lighting with the support of an external expert
  • Understand what data is needed and what level of detail and granularity is expected to fulfill existing methods for environmental declarations

The training will address:

  • The regulatory context for EPD communications at European level
  • PCR & EPD practice according to ISO 14025, in relation with the relevant content of ISO 14044
  • PCR preparation according to ISO 14027, the program operator role
  • PCR & EPD making for EEE according to EN 50693 and to EN 15804 on buildings
  • PEP EcoPassport PSR 0014 (specific rules for luminaires) and PSR 0007 (specific rules on self-contained emergency electrical equipment) and companies’ experience in applying these rules to a lighting product

To prepare for the webinar, participants will be provided with:

  • Glossary of terms, to read in advance and familiarize with key concepts
  • PEF Guidance document dated 2019
  • PCR Ed.4 from Association PEP Ecopassport
  • PSR 0014 and PSR 0007 from Association PEP Ecopassport

Trainer

Philippe OSSET (SOLINNEN) is mandated by France (AFNOR) to represent France within ISO/TC 207/SC 3 work, including when dealing with PCR and EPD (type III) preparation according to ISO 14025. He has been involved in ISO 14027 redaction: this standard describes in detail what needs to be done to prepare a PCR. Additionally, he represents Association PEP ecopassport at the TAB (Technical Advisory Board) of PEF and knows the content of the current PEF guidance, which describes in detail what needs to be done to prepare a PEFCR. As member of the Technical Committee (COTEC) of Association PEP ecopassport, he knows the PSR 0014 regarding lighting products and PSR 0007 regarding emergency lighting that this Association makes available through its website.

Please note that the training will recorded and will be made available afterwards to all LightingEurope members together with the set of slides.

This event will highlight how the review of the Energy Performance Of Buildings Directive (EPBD) can use smart technologies to make the EU’s building stock energy-efficient, decarbonised, future proof and more comfortable to its citizens. To meet the revised EU climate targets and fully decarbonise the building stock by 2050, stronger policy measures must be put in place at the European level. Most of the potential of digitalization is still unexploited in the building sector. The revision of the EPBD creates a unique opportunity to deploy a broad range of energy-efficient and smart technologies.

The event is aimed at fostering a discussion between policymakers, institutions and stakeholders (industry experts, NGO’s, investors, property owners, facility managers, citizens, authorities and others), that will be engaged in the review of the EPBD.

The proposed Digital Services Act published by the European Commission on 15 December is a unique opportunity to upgrade our European rules and make them fit for today’s market reality.

LightingEurope hosts an online panel discussion, one of the first opportunities for a public exchange of views on the proposed text and whether it closes the gaps in today’s legislation.

Join us to discuss how to ensure that only safe and quality products reach the EU market:
Does the proposed Digital Services Act close the legal gaps for product compliance online? To which extent would these measures prevent the listing and re-listing of illegal goods online? Does it ensure there is always an economic actor within the EU jurisdiction who takes on all the product compliance obligations? We will address all these points with our panellists.
